Frequently Asked Questions
Our ingredients are listed on our Dental Kit Product pages.
The Vitamin B6 in our Protektin42 & 42+K formulations turns yellow when it comes in contact with water. But don’t worry, there’s no harm in the color change and the small amount won’t affect the flavor. Your pet shouldn’t notice anything.
The Chlorella in Protektn30™ turns the water slightly green because it's an algae derivitave that helps with stomatitis.
NOTE: Keep our powder clear of clothes and other absorbent materials to avoid staining.

Most dogs on a raw diet don’t drink much water. We recommend using the more concentrated dosage (1 scoop in 1-3 cups of water) so that when your pup DOES drink water, they get a higher amount of Protektin42™ with each drink.
Some of our customers add Protektin42™ to bone broth or other liquids added to food. The key is regular administration throughout the day so, although we cannot guarantee results when using it this way, something is definitely better than nothing.
Yes! Including humans, too.
You bet! We’re treating the bacteria in your pet’s mouth, not your pet. That’s the science behind our product. Our ingredients dissolve rapidly, no matter the amount. The key to success is frequent dosing throughout the day so that those microbes stay on a Keto diet that Protektin™ puts them on to constantly improve the oral microbiome and make bacteria less destructive to dental health.
We pride ourselves on using only human-grade, 100% pure ingredients – no fillers, preservatives, artificial colors or flavors, chemicals or other weird ingredients.
Here’s a trick you can do to maximize your supply:
Many people have a multiple pet home with multiple water dishes. We recommend making a batch/pitcher with a few scoops of Protektin in it and keep it in the refrigerator to use for topping off water dishes throughout the day. Try not to keep the pitcher for more than a few days though, as there aren’t any preservatives in our formulations. And fresh, filtered water is always ideal in a nice clean bowl.
PLEASE DISREGARD THE DIRECTIONS ON OUR CURRENT PACKAGING. They're a bit confusing.
Just add a scoop in your pet's water dish... whatever amount that is per day. If they go through multiple bowls of water, feel free to top it off before all the water is gone. Again, a little goes a long way and, so long as there's some Protektin in their water bowl, the formula will still do its job.
Multiple dog home? Fill a 1/2 gallon (1 scoop) or gallon (2 scoops) pitcher with water, keep it in the refrigerator to top off water dishes throughout the day.
Feel free to adjust your dosage as you go. The great news is that you can't over dose your pet. YES, TEEF is THAT safe.
USE DAILY FOR BEST RESULTS
Side note: Whenever you introduce something new into your pet’s diet, start with a 1/2 scoop for the first few days to allow your pet to adjust to the change.
Lost the spoon? Email us at email@example.com for another or simply add a pinch of powder (1/16 tsp) to their water dish!
Yes, TEEF is safe for young pets and we recommend getting them started within the first 5 months of life. However, due to their somewhat sensitive young GI tracts, we recommend Protektin42+K™ (without sodium bicarbonate) to be easy on their tummies.
You can certainly try that, however, we can’t guarantee that it will be as effective. Companion animals normally eat 1-2 times per day (and “woof” it down pretty fast) when the key to success is frequent dosing throughout the day. That way our ingredients coat the mouth often to consistently improve the oral microbiome for better oral health.
Does your pet like ice cubes? You can try making some TEEF ice cubes and see if they enjoy it that way. Make sure they keep the ice cube on a hard surface though, the vitamin in our formula can potentially cause staining.
Make a spray bottle you can keep for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
Add organic, low sugar peanut butter to a lick pad and sprinkle TEEF on top.
Try super charging a toothbrush by adding the powder and a little bit of water.
Make a paste to put on a cloth and wipe their teeth.
Feel free to get creative!
Although it’s rare that pets drink less water when Protektin is added, it’s very important to keep them hydrated. If there is some avoidance, we recommend scaling back on the amount you’re adding to water and observing if there are still any issues. To be safe, put out a second water dish without our product and observe.
If your pet still won’t drink their water, please contact us, firstname.lastname@example.org. We have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Some pets with more sensitive GI tracts will have softer poos as a result of the soluble fiber in our product. This isn’t a harmful reaction, it’s just that, well… fiber makes you poop. You can try scaling back on the dose to keep this from happening or give Protektin42+K a try, instead. If it continues, please contact us directly at email@example.com, as we have a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Our initial formulations were intended for human consumption. We even have some humans that are adding it to their own drinking water!

Fun fact: The human version of our product is currently being tested on the International Space Station as a possible solution for dental hygiene for astronauts!
Our patented Protektin line of prebiotic formulations pack a multiple-action punch to the bacteria in the mouth to improve the oral microbiome. This promotes stronger teeth, healthier gums and fresher breath. It’s beyond anything else available in the market!
1. Soluble fiber – Blocks bacterial sugar-to-acid & sugar-to-plaque production; Blocks sugar metabolism receptors in destructive bacteria.
2. Amino Acid – Activates protein breakdown by bacteria and helps to neutralize acids that are harmful to both teeth and gums.
3. Vitamin – Essential for bacterial enzymes that breakdown protein; Active form that witches bacteria from eating sugars to protein, instead.
4. Sodium Bicarbonate – Contains <3% of daily recommended intake – Neutralizes existing acid in the mouth; pH control of biofilm development and tooth remineralization. This ingredient is not in our sensitive pet formulation.
The best part? This shift or balance of the oral microbiome results in MUCH BETTER BREATH!
Here’s the likely order of observations you’ll notice:
1. Improved oral microbiome – An increase in beneficial bacteria and a decrease in harmful bacteria within 5 days of use. “You can’t actually SEE that happening.”, you say? You sure can! Order an oral microbiome testing kit from our friends at AnimalBiome.com (Dog & Cat) and use TEEF-10 for 10% off your order. You’ll be able to see the shift in good vs. bad bacteria in their readouts.
2. Improved breath – It won’t smell like roses, it will smell like nothing at all.
3. Healthier gums – Take a look at the color of the gums. Our product is unique in that it even targets the bacteria below the gumline where most dental disease exists (and 60% of the tooth), which can result in pinker, healthier gums.
4. Teeth whiteness – Keep an eye on the back molars since this is where the most tartar builds up. After some time, you should see some of the tartar lessen or even come off.
Bonus – Our studies have shown a significant reduction in enteric (poop-associated) bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella, and other nasty bacteria.

Founder and inventor, Emily Stein, Ph.D., earned her Ph.D. in microbiology at University of California at Berkeley and then completed her fellowship in Immunology and Rheumatology at Stanford University. Her exceptional understanding of microbes, molecular nutrition and their impact on human and animal health gave her a unique understanding of how to use bacteria to our advantage rather than to our detriment.
“Bacteria are the most primal, essential organisms on Earth. Their collective power often goes unnoticed and they contribute significantly to health and wellness or the alternative. Our goal is to build products that empower these primal organisms to work for our benefit.” – Emily Stein, Ph.D.
The amount of sodium bicarbonate in a dose of Protektin42 is approx. 3mg, which is an extremely tiny amount of a pet's daily intake, so it is very unlikely to negatively impact your pet.
In determining total sodium per day for your pet (dog-specific): drinking tap water contributes ~10% of daily sodium intake. Hill’s Ideal Balance dog food (chicken) has 66 mg/100kCal of sodium. Adding up total dietary sodium intake means that the amount of additional sodium added by Protektin42 turns out to be ~2-3% additional sodium to the dog’s diet per day.
We discovered our tartar-removal effect in our studies, which means that when we block gum disease-associated bacteria, like Porphyromonas gingivalis and Streptococcus, from eating sugars and carbs, they start to mine plaque and tartar on teeth for those preferred nutrients. Literally making the bacteria function like a microbial toothbrush!
We do have tartar case studies that shows a significant reduction in existing tartar. Though, we don’t specifically focus on tartar because it is not directly related to gum disease. It is only correlated due to it being an effect of oral dysbiosis – a microbial imbalance. We are focused on stopping dysbiosis, the root cause of dental disease. Our technology inhibits destructive plaque production and grows beneficial plaque (yes, there’s such a thing), therefore we are performing a new line of studies focused on our discovery to better understand the underlying mechanisms.
